2 for 1 Special

For all 5 of you... yesterday I did not post. I couldn't get a good Internet connection, plus I was a single mommy on a road trip and outnumbered by my kids. I did make a smoothie and it was super delish. I just want people to try one and if I can make them daily while out of town, you can at least try one while you are at home :)
Day 16
All i used was water (from the tap-ew!) banana, 2 oranges, and a bag of spinach

It was a bit more frothy which is from the oranges

Super Yummy Jupiter Smoothie :) 3 ingredients and great nutrition

Day 17

So nice to be home and blend up my creations and not worry about waking others up

water, banana, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, green grapes, flax

Totally forgot to take a picture once I added my spinach - so, today there are lots of boring fruit pics (not that pics of spinach are exciting or anything)

Green Grapes- in the book I read it said to use ripe fruit but I tend to like a little tartness in my grapes so I choose green

I used honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon today. great flavor combo and it adds just the right sweetness without being OVERLY sweet

It seems like how much I make varies and it is because I am not really measuring things out. I am experimenting and it feels really liberating to be able to just throw something in and find out it really tastes good (as well as being really good for you)

A South Florida Smoothie

Well the kids and I made it to South Florida and the drive really wasn't too bad. Yesterday's smoothie was ok. I'm not a huge fan of cantaloupe but the whole point of this is for me to try new things and I have been trying to do that.
water, spinach, blueberries, strawberries, banana, orange juice

I PACKED the Ninja FULL of the whole bag of spinach

Blueberries, Strawberries, and Bananas- Oh MY!

When you are somewhere unusual- you use what they have and today that was Orange juice instead of an orange :)

Blend Blend Blend

I know I say this a lot but today's smoothie was SO GOOD!!! My tastes are changing because I really was expecting it to be Blah and it was a good balance of green and sweet. The orange juice really did the trick I guess.

The best part of today was that my mom drank some :) Another person converted I hope.

Tomorrow I get to try to get my Sister-In-Law to try one- and my job continues

Planning Ahead

As you read this, I am on my way down to South Florida to visit some family. No I didn't bring my Vitamix (it's too bulky) but I DID pack my Ninja :) When I started thinking about the drive down I had to plan ahead on how I was going to get my ingredients (thanks MOM!) and how I was going to make and cosume them. I have been doing this challenge for 14 DAYS and I feel like I will be drinking green smoothies for the next 40 years. It's weird when you find out that you like something when you are 33 years old. I kinda wish that I hadn't been so stubborn for so long- ha!

Coconut Water, Spinach, Cantalope, Frozen Strawberries, and Flax Seeds

Picked me up some SPINACH- yum yum!!!

And I used the whole container in my smoothie tonight (who am i!?)

Ripe Cantalope

Frozen Strawberries

Flax Seeds to add some Omega's

All ready for my 3 hour drive :) Stay tuned for my review of this combo once I get to South Florida

One Healthy Choice Made Today...

Recycled

I had some leftover from yesterday so I decided I would use it up before I made another. I am almost to the 2 week mark and I have only done this twice now. I am learning so much about giving my body nutrients instead of just putting in "junk" and I can't believe that it has only been 2 weeks since I began this challenge. I feel like my body wants the healthy things now and I am not sure if it is just a mental thing or if I am actually craving these carrots that I have been eating all week.
I'm not saying that I don't want to eat junk at all- because I definitely still have some moments (chocolate related ones) and I do give into them. I feel like when I am usually making good choices I can splurge on the things that I really feel like I want.
If you know me- you know that I have had MANY issues with eating and I feel like while I am eating healthier I don't worry as much about the content or the amount of food that I am eating. I'm not saying that I don't care anymore but I am saying that it isn't an obsession because the choices that I am making aren't candy, chips, ect.
I feel better physically and my skin and hair look really good from all the extra vitamins and minerals coming from the smoothies.
I wish more people would just try this for 21 days. Just incorporating the smoothies into what they are already eating can make such a huge difference.
Well today's post was a bit heavy but no worries- tomorrow i will be back to normal with a couple new ingredients and my expert advice on them-HA!

Better Late than Never

What happens when you don't plan ahead?? Your smoothie gets whatever greens you have in your fridge - that's what.
Collard Greens, Dandelion Greens, Lemon, Oranges, Banana, Flax Seeds, Coconut Water

Collards and Dandelions are all that I had in my fridge. I had NO Spinach to be my safety net today.

I have read a lot of recipes that say to add a lemon. I don't really like lemons. Not in my water, Not in my tea- but I thought that I should at least give the lemon a try so I did.

A fruit that I am starting to LOVE is oranges. Their sweetness balances out the bitterness of the greens (especially today)

YUMMY

Added my banana and flax

And I definitely learned my lesson from yesterday and added 2 handfuls of ice :)

Collard Greens have a slight peppery aftertaste so I added a squirt of agave and today's experiment turned out pretty good (even if I did add lemon's) So when life hands you lemon's make a yummy green smoothie.

What a difference a day makes

Like I said yesterday, the smoothie that I made was AWFUL (I'm not sugarcoating it!) Those dang Pomegranate seeds ruined the whole thing and no matter how many times I blended they would not break up.
Spinach, Rainbow Chard, Collard Greens, Orange, Watermelon, Banana, Flax seeds, Coconut Water

When we were at Publix- I looked to see if they had bigger bottles of it and this is what I found. So I started by adding 2 cups of coconut water.

I was almost out of all of the greens that I had so I decided to mix them. So I had spinach, rainbow chard, and collards and I FILLED my Vitamix with them. 2-3 cups maybe more I didn't measure

Watermelon :) I hadn't used it in a couple days so I thought since I liked it, it should make an appearance

My trusty orange

Banana

Blend Blend Blend and Blend some more

Today I blended for a lot longer than I usually do. After yesterday's debacle I didn't really want to have any yucky seeds to ruin my smoothie.

Nice and green with the 3 different leafy's that I added today. On to the best part whether the flavor is ok. Hmmm...I have been adding ice for the last few days and today I didn't which definitely makes it taste much better. Today's smoothie was warm and I think I like them cold better. The flavor of this one was changed by the watermelon and I think the collards added a stronger flavor too. It was very good and once again I added no sweetener because the fruits had enough sweetness that I didn't need any. I really am still shocked that the "green" taste it the one that I am liking better and not the fruit taste.

So today's smoothie was a success :)

Epic Fail due to Human Error

I vowed that I would not lie about anything on this blog and today's smoothie SUCKED!!! The flavors were good BUT my nemesis the Pomegranate. foiled my smoothie again!!
Coconut Water, Rainbow Chard, Spinach, Pomegranate, Grapes, Banana, Flax Seeds

Stuffed with greens :)

I used a different brand of coconut water and it helped with the flavor- making it a bit sweeter with the added pineapple.

Ryan LOVES grapes so I thought I would throw some in

My last banana of the bundle- nice and ripe

The dastardly Pomegranate. Ok so this was my second attempt with this fruit and I think I will be avoiding it for the remainder of my life. I might buy the juice but actually trying to get the silly little pods out without getting seeds (that will not pulverize) isn't really worth it for me.

All my ingredients ready to go

Blend Blend Blend

I really had high hopes for this one. BUT the Pomegranate seeds were in every sip and I had to keep spitting them out. I think I could have handled a few but the WHOLE THING had them and I literally had to stop after EVERY sip :(

Luckily for me I had some left over from yesterday but I'm going to have to make another for this afternoon.
